Managing joint expenses as a couple is time consuming and requires a lot of communication, especially when on a budget. Currently, many rely on external budgeting tools or manual tracking.
I designed a product solution that extends the existing Groups feature to support joint budgeting, multi category expense tracking, and in app financial communication. By enabling couples to record expenses, assign them to shared budget folders, and discuss transactions directly through Revolut Chat, the feature improves transparency and encourages more financial management to happen within Revolut.
Because the feature only works fully once both partners are on the platform, it naturally invites the non user partner to join, giving Revolut a built in growth loop through the new feature.
Problem
Young couples want to manage joint expenses without joining finances just yet

A Gap in Today’s Revolut Product Offering

Solution
Where possible, I used existing components from the Revolut design system.
Shared categorized budgets
Flow 2
Budgets can be organized into folders by expense category, and each budget can be fully customized. Users can also see immediately how much of the monthly budget has been spent in each category.
Fair expense splitting
Flow 3
Expense splitting is fully customizable: users can split either individual budget folders or all expenses across the group, and they can also set custom split ratios. Expenses are added in the same way as in other Revolut Groups.
